Generations in the workforce

Knowing the differences in the generations “affects nearly everything – what motivates you, what you value.” How would you, as a Millennial, who has practically grown up with technology and social media, convince someone in a different generation that social media can be effective (if employed properly) to their business?

As a millennial I have grown up around all types of technology and seen how social media has progressed. If I had to convince a different generation that has not been around social media, I would explain to them how beneficial it would be to their company. Since the workforce has a mix of generations, some companies feel as though they dont need social media to make their companies thrive. Since we are the future in the workforce, it is our job to teach the other generations that social media is important in keeping a business running. Ads, newspapers, radio, magazines, social networks, these are all important in spreading the word about upcoming events or specials at a job.

Social media can also increase customer awareness because it can teach their customers about their company and what they can offer to the public. New technology is coming out everyday and it is our job as Millennial’s to stay on top of whats new. If we get behind on social media then who will teach us? It is key for us to become successful in the workforce, if we master every social site that can benefit the company, then we can pass what we learn to other generations.

Favorite Childhood show

Posted in Uncategorized on April 6, 2012 by candace16

If I had the power to bring back one of my favorite childhood TV shows, I’m not sure what I would choose. There are so many great shows that came out in the 90′s and I would love for a rerun of everything to come on. The first show that comes to mind would probably be Doug, then Rugrats, Hey Arnold, All That, Fresh Prince, Family Matters, Cousin Skeeter, and so many more. Each of these shows were so different but they all had little lessons that taught me right from wrong, and what was appropriate and inappropriate in certain situations. I think now in days our youth lack good childhood shows because everything is more advanced and children are exposed to more than from when I was growing up. Looking at channels like Disney now, it isn’t the same as to when zenon, sister sister would come on. I feel like these kids missed out on all the good shows.

OK now back to the one show I would bring back, if I had to choose I would probably choose Fresh Prince of Beliar because it was a popular show, and had a lot life lessons in each episode. I feel like the cast was family oriented and it was very humorous to watch. This show still plays reruns because it was such a hit back then. With the way that they interacted on the show, it kind of lets others relate to the story or message they are trying to portray.

PR Skills at work

Posted in Uncategorized on March 30, 2012 by candace16

If I had to sell new technology like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Flickr to a company, I would explain to them the importance of these social networks. I would let them know that in this generation social media is important. If we need to find anything we’re not asking around first, we’re not running to the newspaper, we go to the internet and look on social sites to get updates. Since we are the future of the workforce it is important for me to teach companies why it is a necessity to use these site to advertise for their company. If a company does not use at least one of these networks to promote/advertise for their business then they are behind. I would stress that by not joining these websites, it could either make or break their company.

Some advantages to using social media for campaigns is that, it is so quick. If you type a quick slogan from your phone or computer to one of these website, instantly hundreds or even thousands of people have seen the message. Another advantage of social media is because it’s a great way to advertise. I need to see if new products the company has or if a company offers coupons on their site, I would rather go check their website then run to the store. So social media sites are more convenient for their customers. The last advantage to using social networks is because they would be behind on technology, and no one wants to be behind.

If I could go back to freshman year?!

Posted in Uncategorized on March 22, 2012 by candace16

I really miss those freshman days! Freshman year was so easy and relaxed compared to now. I had so much fun and no worries. Now I have to think about graduation, a career job, a new place to live, bills i’ll have to start paying, just so much that I don’t even want to start thinking about. Some other reasons why I would want to go back to freshman year would be because I wasnt as focused as I am today. I need a redo, I feel like if I took majority of that free time I had and studied, I would’ve made all A’s. The other reason why I want to go back is because its stress free well at least it was to me. Freshman year is when your just starting out at a new school, making new friends, and trying to get involved on campus. I joined the MAP program which is a mentoring program for incoming freshman, so when I came to Southern, I had a upperclassman as my mentor and a group of other freshman that were in my same major. The MAP program was a great experience for me to get involved and since it turned out to be so beneficial, a year later I became a mentor at that same program. That year is a time to prepare you to start growing up and now being at my senior year I’m not ready to rush leaving.
