Pinterest is taking over social media sites like Twitter and Facebook! Everyone is pinning and making boards of pictures that interest them. Pinterest isnt just pictures that you find on the site, you can pin inspiring messages, items of things you may want to buy from stores, and also pictures of yourself can be added on the boards. Pinterest can be of value to PR professionals because the people using Pinterest are the ones putting up pictures. These are pictures of what they like and want to see in places they shop. Using this site to monitor what the public like will be a great advantage for PR professionals.
I feel like Pinterest came out of no where! I remember my roommate always bringing it up once I finally started using it I fell in love. I feel like since Pinterest is so popular it will be around for a while. It’s so different from Twitter and Facebook that I think that it will continue to grow.
I do have a Pinterest account and I really love the pictures on there that can be pinned. I also like the boards that I see other people make. I dont get the opportunity to get on Pinterest as much as I would like to but when I do I like to explore and pin new things. I would recommend Pinterest to others because it is so fun and its something to do to kill time. I think that if your planning an event, it would be a great tool to use because it will keep you organized and help you get a feel of how the event will look.

Valentines Day
Posted in Uncategorized on February 17, 2012 by candace16The best and worst Valentines Day gift I have every received hmm.. The best Valentines Day gift I have received was probably in high school. My boyfriend at the time, told some of my friends to tell me to go stand in a hallway, and when I did he came around the corner and brought me this HUGE teddy bear, a dozen red rose, and a card and it was the best day ever lol. EXCEPT the part about carrying that HUGE bear around all day, so anytime someone wanted to hold it I was glad to let them have it.
I still have that bear but its collecting dust in my closet. The WORST Valentines day would be last year. I was dating a guy and he told me he had to visit a family member the weekend before Valentines Day (I think Vday was on a Monday last year) So there was no weekend celebration, well during that weekend when trying to contact him I get no response until the actual day of vday. That’s because he probably had ANOTHER girlfriend at home!! (NOT BITTER lol) Sad story I know, but since I have AMAZING friends/Roommates they decorated my room while I was gone, left me this tear jerker note, and got me a gift so it was bitter sweet.
Since I never got an actual gift that Valentines day I would consider that the worst gift. I didnt really let the giver know how I felt and I probably wont.
If I worked for a greeting card company or a florist shop I would persuade the public that Valentines Day is the day of “LOVE”. I would tell them to remember that you can show someone how much you love them on any other day out of the year BUT its EXTRA important to have a gift/show appreciation on the actual day Feb 14. I would also let them know that I have the best quality cards/flowers in the area for the cheapest price!!!

Social Media
Posted in Uncategorized on February 10, 2012 by candace16Social Media has changed the PR world because it makes everything so much faster. If a PR practitioner needed to send a blog out, all they would have to do is go on a social media site like Twitter and with a click of a mouse thousands of people could see the post. In the past social media was not as advanced as it is today, there were no Facebook and Twitter accounts. In a way I feel like these social media sites made it worse for PR practitioners because now anybody can write a blog or post a article on these websites. These people may not have had any experience in public relations but they are doing some of the responsibilities a PR practitioner would have to do. I feel like if anyone can upload a blog or write a press release, what will PR professionals do since everyone else can do their job? I feel like companies that try and run a business without a PR department is setting their company up for failure because yes, anyone can write a blog, monitor competing companies and check tweets, but if negative publicity is said about their client, a PR practitioners has the experience and knows how to correct the issue before it gets bigger than it is. A PR practitioner finds the facts before uploading anything, and a PR practitioner knows the objectives their company has set and what goals they need to meet. If random people continue to take over social media, then what will set apart a PR professionals from a employee with a nursing background?

books better than movie blog
Posted in Uncategorized on February 3, 2012 by candace16If I had to choose between reading a book or watching the movie I would rather watch the movie. Since I have been in college, I don’t get that much time to myself, so its not like I can sit down and read a book. There is always something to do either being class, work, practice or meetings so its never any down time besides me doing homework. I feel like watching the movie would be much faster and I would get a lot out of it in a shorter amount of time than to read the book. I do think that books often have better descriptions then some movies so it would be beneficial to do both. The last book I read & movie I seen is a Harry Potter one and I think it was the first book so I’m VERY behind. If i had to read a book now and watch the movie it would probably be Twilight. It seems like the new Harry Potter, everyone has to read the books and everyone has to go watch the movies. I have seen a few of the Twilight movies and I like it, and from what I hear the books are really interesting too. I noticed that the books tend to give more information then the movies do. I took my little sister to the movies to see the last Twilight movie and it ended at a good part and since she loves to read and has read the books she already knows what will happen before the next movie comes out. So it is an advantage to read the book instead of having to wait like me.
